This was the first winter I spent not traveling/touring since moving to Portland, and I’m not sure I’d like to again. I purposefully slowed down a bit, to calm down from last year’s touring shenanigans, but only for a bit, and found myself sinking into some anxiety, depression, and existential searching. Though, in the short days of the darkest of the months I managed to start creating and finding new means of performance. I finally took the electronic plunge and started working with my cello neighbor’s looping pedal! Which initially, I thought this would prove to be difficult, but I found an ease with this analog machinery. A few songs have already been written and there will be more to come!
Its as though the underground, under the skin, rhizome of my psyche, waiting for the warmth of the stage, is starting to shoot out its life deep into the earth and out into the sky. Pretty soon there will be stalks of energetic tours, but for now…
